Congratulations to Samaiya, a junior at FPHS, for earning a scholarship to attend the Lead-A-Way program at Rowan College at Burlington County (RCBC). In the program, participants learn how to stand out as leaders in the Lead-A-Way program. They practice positive communication skills, collaborative teamwork, and integrity in activities and team projects. This program emphasizes using leadership traits to affect positive change in your community. The program includes a field-trip to historic Paulsdale the home of suffragist and women’s rights leader Alice Stokes Paul (1885-1977). Using role models like suffragist Alice Paul, labor leader and civil rights activist Dolores Huerta, Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm, and Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, the program encourages each participant to identify and develop their own leadership style and to formulate strategies for taking leadership roles in their schools and communities. A social justice project at the end of the series allows the participants to present in teams on girls issues and actions for positive change through social media.
